She is best known as Lady Elizabeth Foster, the close friend of Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire. Elizabeth supplanted the Duchess, gaining the affections of William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire, and later marrying him. Several of her letters are preserved..

(Forbes needed their permission to sell prints from this watercolour)Biography: Stanhope Forbes commissioned by the Royal Exchange for two mural paintings on the inner building walls of 'The Great Fire of London' and 'The Destruction Of The Royal Exchange' measuring 5.23 metres high (17 foot) x 3.4 metres (11 foot).
